What is the purpose of the temporary veneer stage?

At your initial treatment planning appointment a digital scan of your mouth and teeth will be taken. We will take the time to listen to what you like and dislike about your current smile and what you would like to achieve.

With the use of smile styles we will discuss at length tooth shapes, tooth widths and lengths, smile arc, gaps between teeth (diastema). If you have photographs of your old smile if you desire to recreate that or a smile of a celebrity that you like please bring those.

All of this information along with the digital scan and photographs will be sent to the ceramicist. A proposed digital smile design will be mocked up and then printed in a 3D model. We then take a putty impression of the model to use as a transfer into your mouth after your teeth have been prepared.

Your new proposed smile design is then transferred and temporarily bonded into your mouth. We have a range of temporary materials in different shades so as well as being able to trial the shape, size and design of your new smile you can also trial the shade.

We ask you to go and live in your temporaries for a few days, take the time to look in the mirror, chat with trusted friends and family and come back and tell us what you like and what you don’t like. The more detailed feedback you give us the better. We want to know about every little minutiae. The length of each tooth, the incisal corners, the thickness and how your lips feel. Do they feel supported? Are they too bulky? How is your speech? Can you pronounce the letters “S, F and V” without any problems. How does the bite feel? Do you like the shade? Would you prefer lighter or darker?

All these things can easily be adjusted in your temporaries until you are completely, 100% happy with them and then and only then do we take a final scan and ask the ceramicist to replicate exactly your temporaries in ceramic.
